I like to think of this edition’s timing as a “strategic coincidence.” as it is presented to you less than a week before the 4th annual National Health IT Week begins next Monday, Sept. 21st in Washington. InterConnect offers MobileMD’s voice and field experience to all advocates of health information technology – particularly the secure, electronic exchange, integration, and access of clinical information absolutely critical to support quality patient care.
What a difference a year can make. During last year's event, stakeholders and members of Congress assembled under the "One Voice, One Vision" banner to promote the adoption of health information technology. Among the presenters at a Capitol Hill press conference were Rep. Patrick Kennedy, (D-R.I.), Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pa.) and Aneesh Chopra, then Secretary of Technology for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The general election followed and, against a truly historic backdrop, brought with it the introduction of ARRA HITECH. As a result, we are now in a time of significant and rapid healthcare IT evolution as standards are developed, old standards are modernized, and both "carrot and stick" incentives speed healthcare's adoption of information technology. To my last point, we expect next week’s focus will be on the quickening pace of IT adoption and other developments associated with ARRA HITECH.
All of which brings me again back to this edition, in which you'll catch a glimpse of rapid physician adoption in two noteworthy articles: one on work at Catholic Health West (CHW) by Scott Whyte, CHW's senior director of physician and ambulatory IT strategy. This edition also offers a one-on-one with Harm J. Scherpbier, MD, vice president and chief medical officer for Main Line Health in suburban Philadelphia. Both reports discuss the adoption of MobileMD's comprehensive Health Information Exchange technology and services.
